On August 20, 2026, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Croatia participated—at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia and the Mayor of Breznica Municipality, Mr. Ivan Andraš—in the ceremony marking the 165th anniversary of the death of Count Edgar Bourrée de Corberon, a French nobleman whose life and work were inextricably linked to Croatia.

Count Edgar Bourrée de Corberon is laid to rest in Bisag, in Varaždin County, where the commemorative event honoring his life and contribution to Croatia took place.

The Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta was represented by Dr. Luka Krilić, Secretary of the Embassy, ​​and Branimir Iveković, a lawyer and Knight of the Order of Malta. A wreath was laid on behalf of the Embassy, ​​and a message from His Excellency the Ambassador, Knight Prof. Pietro Mortini, was read aloud.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Gordan Grlić Radman; the Ambassador of the French Republic to the Republic of Croatia, His Excellency Fabien Fieschi; Dr. Vesna Pascuttini Juraga, representing the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia; the Deputy Prefect of Varaždin County, Ms. Silvija Zagorec; and the Mayor of Novi Marof, Mr. Siniša Jenkač. The commemoration took place in a dignified and solemn atmosphere, highlighting the historical and cultural ties between France and Croatia, as well as the enduring and exceptional contribution of Count Edgar Bourrée de Corberon to Croatian history and cultural heritage.
